Today , i decided to share an older design of mine, a fantasy kit i made for the german team Werder Bremen. Werder's traditional home kits are white shirts with green shorts and white socks , as you can see from this 1969 picture.
This colour succession of white/green/white , to my knowledge , unique amongst the big clubs of Europe, it's been largely ignored by kit manufacturers ever since the mid to late 90's. Mostly green shirts have been used as home jerseys, the traditional white ones being used as away kits or sometimes discarded all together.
Also new colours have been used , such as black , blue, yellow or orange. It was actually the introduction of the orange colour, as a marketing tool , starting the 2004 season , that sparked a large scale fan protest , under the name "Werder ist grun-weiss" ( Werder is green and white) .

So , for my fantasy kits i decided to revert back to tradition. The colour scheme of white/green/white is back on the home uniform and off course their characteristic shade of green , reminding ( at least to myself ) of the oxidized copper roofs and statues in the center of Bremen , is used both on the home and away kits.
As a personal touch i also used a lighter shade of green on both kits and black on the away shorts and socks , to further highlight the two shades of green.

Bremen city hall, with it's trademark green roof.
The final design chalenge i had to "takle" was their main sponsor , Wiesenhof , who traditionally uses red lettering and logo , wich , of course , clashes horribly with the rest of the kit. So I changed their logo's colour , from red to green ( or white for the away kit) and it fitted quite nicely on the shirt.
Home kit . Simple white shirt , with a retro collar and two green horizontal stripes. Those two stripes will be featured on the bottom part of the socks as well. On the inside of the collar , as a tribute to Werder's fans , i wrote their protest slogan "Werder ist grun-weiss". A thin white stripe is the only design element on a simple green short.
For the away shirt , i imagined a "copper" green shirt with lighter green sleeves. When i did my research about past Werder Bremen shirts i was surprised to disscover a similar design made by Puma , back in 1997. Their design featured also a white stripe on the sleeve , not visible on the 1997 photo and wich i didn't incorporate on my shirt. They also used white shorts and socks. Personally i think the black better compliments the two shades of green and Werder fans never seemed to mind their black and green shirts in the past.
In the future i will attempt to design my first cycling and athletics uniforms.
