My designs : Dinamo Bucuresti, Romania

    Hello everyone !

My first post on this blog  is dedicated to my favourite football team and home town club , Dinamo Bucuresti.
Our nickname is "The Red Dogs" and our traditional colours are red and white. Even though teams in Romania don't have standard traditional kits , going mainly for a specific colour scheme, Dinamo mostly played in all-red kits as their primary uniforms and all-white ones as their secondary , on ocasion changing that order or combining the two. I chose to break away from that tradition for my fantasy designs.
On the last two decades or so , Dinamo's kits were produced by some famous  manufacturers like Diadora, Lotto , Joma and , from 2006 until the present , Nike. Because we're not a big name on the european scene , we've mostly got  their basic templates at the time on our kits , resulting in some pretty boring looking unis.  Design wise things were looking bad as well , especially since Nike , a brand i think can be very lazy at times in this particular departament  , took over. Mainly simple red or white jerseys , with little or no design elements on them. Because of that , sometimes kits from different manufacturers were looking very similar to each other.

But every now and then we got some special looking kits: a  design from Lotto in the year 2000 , with some kind of horizontal lines design , according to Lotto specially made for us , a half white and half red jersey in 2010 from Nike or  red and white stripes from Joma in the 1999 season.

As to compensate for their lack of design , Nike went a little bit crazy on our away and third kits , producing all-black  ,  yellow and black,  or completly green kits , basicly for the first time in our history.

The 2010 black and yellow away kit.

I must admit , out of all these "special " kits , the 2010 -2012 "half and half " uniforms were my all time favourites , a childhood dream come true actually, even though i realise they were simple templates as well ( Mainz 05 had the same kits in 2010). So it comes as no surprise that my home fantasy kit design would be a "half and half " red and white one.
    Main design differences :
- a white short , instead of a red one .
- the logo for one of our sponsors , Tiriac Auto wich is bassicly a red and blue shied ( Steaua Bucuresti colours) , changed to a red and white shield , to fit better with the rest of the kit.
- Traditional symbols like the stylised red "D" , first logo of our club , back in 1948 and the image of our hero , Catalin Hildan , are present on the collar and the inside of the jersey.
- Red and white v-nech , instead of a simple all-white pollo collar.
- Red and white socks instead of  simple all-red ones.
- The "D" logo on the socks.
- Small red or white design ellements on the sleeves , short and on the side of the shirt.

For my fantasy away kit , i chose the colour black. Dinamo played in an all black kit before , in 2009 or 2010, but it was such a boring looking kit ,they only used it for one game . In fact one of the club's officials at that time said it was a "funeral kit".
But Dinamo's fans love the colour black , they use it often on their banners because it works out  very well when you combine it with the traditional red and white.
The monotony of the all black kit  is broken by vertical red and white stripes , both  on the shirt and socks. Other design elements include the "D" logo on the inside of the shirt and on the back numbers , and our founding year , 1948 , above the player's name.
This is an older design of mine ( you can see i used my old logo)  , from late 2012 i think, but i still like it very much.

I intend my next design to be the all-black kit of New Zealand. I promise i'll focus less on the history of the kit and more on the design side of it. Untill the kit will be ready , different kind of posts will appear on this blog.
